*Ferro Fibrous armor is the standard armor use to protect a mech. It weighs less than Reactive and Reflective armor, but takes up less space.
**Ferro Fibrous provides 30 points of protection per ton and is equally resistant to all damage.

====Damage Reduction==== 
In addition, armor types have different DR (damage reduction). DR reduces an attack by a certain amount.

First of all, there is a DR offset. This works against the defender. If DR is computed to be less than zero it is treated as zero.
*FF has offset of 1.0
*Reactive and reflective, offset 0.5.
*Standard has DR of offset 0.5
*Hardened a DR of offset 0.0
*Stealth has offset 0.0. In fact, it always has a DR of zero.

Now each armor type has a certain amount of points of armor for DR. It is equal to points per ton. You subtract the offset to get the real DR value.
*For FF 30 points of armor
*Reactive and Reflective is 20
*Standard and Stealth is 20
*Hardened is 10

===Formulas for Armor Types===
The final result is:<br>
(attack strength*damage resistance) - (armor points/damage reduction - offset) = damage taken

Just in case I lost you, here is an in game example using a Mad Cat and an ER PPC:
*The Mad Cat can carry a total of 66 points of any given type of armor on its center torso
*An ER PPC does 15 points of damage
**Here is how many hits it would take to completely remove all armor from the CT with each armor type:

====Hardened====
Hardened (6.6 Tons of armor):

*Notice the less armor remains, the less effective Damage Reduction is.
*Any weapon that does less than 1.5x the Damage Reduction number will do no damage to hardened armor. (Such as [[Machine Gun]]s or lower power lasers)
*Hardened armor is more effective against low damage weapons
*Weapons with armor piercing will ignore Damage Reduction completely
*Though it took 12 ER PPC hits to destroy the CT, it required 3X as much tonnage to be dedicated to the CT as a CT with full ferro fibrous armor. 
*Assuming you maxed out your Mad Cat's armor with hardened armor, the total armor tonnage would be 43.2 tons.
**If you stripped all weapons and equipment, you would only be left with 15.3 free tons
**If you allocated the same tonnage to hardened armor as you could full reactive, reflective, standard, or stealth, the CT would take 5 hits to destroy the CT
**If you allocated the same tonnage to hardened armor as you could full ferro fibrous, 3 hits would destroy the CT

====Ferro Fibrous Armor====
Ferro Fibrous Armor (2.2 Tons of armor):
#(15 * 1.0) - (66.00/30 - 1.0) = (15) - (1.20) = 13.8

**The difference between the two systems after four hits is 1.97 (6 points with the current system, 7.97 with the future one).

Against standard (3.3 tons of armor):

====Reactive Armor====
Against Reactive (3.3 tons of armor):

*When compared to ferro fibrous, 3.3 tons of reactive armor provides the same protection against missiles and energy weapons. However, to get this same protection, 50% more tonnage must be allocated to armor.
*If you allocated the same tonnage to hardened armor as you could full ferro fibrous, 4 hits would destroy the CT.

====Reflective Armor====
Against Reflective(3.3 tons of armor):

====Stealth Armor====
Against Stealth(3.3 tons of armor):

*Stealth armor will reduced the enemy's radar effectiveness by 10%, but only if every section of your mech is equipped with stealth armor.
*If you allocated the same tonnage to hardened armor as you could full ferro fibrous, 3 hits would destroy the CT.

Note that once these future armor types are released, different armor types can be used on each section. For example, you can use full stealth armor on you CT, full ferro fibrous on your torso's and arms, and full reflective on your legs. This can be extremely useful if your CT also houses some of your heaviest weapons. Only with stealth armor is it important to equip each section with the same armor type.
