MECHWARRIOR IS BACK! MEKTEK CRASHES HARD DURING RELEASE!
The web server is back online and we have a new version of MTX available.
The new version brings with it an offline mode, allowing you to install games and updates when the web servers are down. A critical flaw in our design pattern has been addressed where MTX would fail when our servers went down. There are risks involved with installing and updating in offline mode as the client can't verify the files to make sure they haven't become corrupted, but it does give you the option if you wish to install when the web server is unavailable. If the files are corrupted, you will have to re-download and reinstall in order to connect to servers running the correct version. If you already obtained the MTX patches else where then you should be able to download and install those patches with MTX by using the Browse > Open *.mtx function.
We've also removed the skin from MTX in this version. At some point we will allow for custom skins so you will have the ability to customize MTX's appearance. The public outcry of the application being laggy has been addressed and the result is a much more snappy windows form application.
We strongly recommend that you install the current public beta version 1.0.3.5 by clicking here. This version is not dependent on our website and should function much better under heavy traffic.
Some people have expressed questions and concerns about using MTX to install the game. The main reason we are using MTX to deliver this free distribution of Mechwarrior: Mercenaries is to be able to serve the many updates we have planned in the near future. Patching and updating Mercs without an easy method of distribution to the amount of people who will need the patches and updates, will become a much larger problem than simply being patient with us and MTX while we work out the bugs. The community will fragment with all the different versions that ....
The first update for MW4:Mercenaries in years is available for download. One of the best features of this version is that you will have access to the mech in the I.S. and Clan pack, even if you don't own them. A full list of features can be found here. Unlike past updates that were incremental patches for the original game that practically required a PhD to install, this is a separate installation from your 3.02b game. The installation and future patches, such as MekPak 4, are all automatically installed through MekTek's MTX installer. You can download the installer from here.
All this work from Mektek is available for free. However, it isn't free to make it. Everything Mektek does for us is paid for by donations. If you would like to contribute a donation, visit Mektek.net and click the "donate" link at the top of the page.
A team at Mektek has been working on a new MechWarrior game built from scratch and hopefully incorporating the best parts of all MechWarrior games so far into one game. Check out the page here.
Looks like it's time to get those old uniforms out and dust them off because the next iteration of Mechwarrior has just been announced. Simply titled "Mechwarrior", it is an reboot for the series similar to the recent Star Trek movie. The game takes place during the year 3015, which is near the end of the 3rd Succession War, or roughly 50 years before the timeline of Mechwarrior 4. To give you an idea of that era, entire planets are guarded by only a handful of mechs, and each one is far more rare and valuable than the almost disposable armies we are used to. Also, the clans have not made themselves known to the Inner Sphere yet which could mean we as a unit may have to decided what direction we may need to take online. But on to the good stuff. Here is the six page interview with Jordan Weisman and an intro video with in-game footage.
After more than a decade of ferocity on the field of battle and in the clan hall, Kerensky's finest, the noble Jade Falcon Clan is no more. Once considered to be superior to even the numbers of the Wolf Clan, the Falcon Clan roamed free thru the outer worlds. Even onto the shores of the cradle of mankind, Terra, did the noble clan tread. From the time of Jakl Roshak a brotherhood was born that may not soon be refound. Building on the ferocity of the fathers genes a family of clones was forged into the supreme example of the ambitions of mankind. Superior warriors like Elias Critchell and Talon Drake struck fear into the hearts and minds of the Great Houses of the Inner Sphere. Noble warriors with lightening reflexes and terrifying efficiency tore thru hundreds of hapless fools, fodder for the green machine. And thru it all it seemed the Falcon's reign would be supreme. But just as ancient Rome fell to the corruption and jealousy of a society carried by but a few noble warriors so too was the fate of the indominable Jade Falcon Clan. Ultramek, child prodegy, a killing force without compair, foretold the demise of the great clan when he was found dead on the Clan Hall floor, stabbed in the back by a jealous elder. Slain before his prime by a ranking officer, the stain of his blood was never washed from the once great halls floor. Thus begain the fall of the once noble clan. Treachery and inaction soon came to define the clan. Unwilling to face open defeat the Khan was unable to regain control. In a move that might even have surprised the slain Ceasar an assasination was attempted on the once great FriedV. The hall was torn asunder never to be rebuilt again. The fragmented and defeated clan turned to their once shining light to bring the clan back under one roof. But tragedy struck the Khan Talon when in a border skirmish his mech slipped off a ravine and fell to the rocky b....
